Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs: Your questions answered, before you book with us

What insurances do your practice accept?

We accept Medicare, some Medicare Advantage plans, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare, and Aetna. As we look ahead, our goal is to include more major insurance providers as part of our network.

Did you know that many people are unaware that they have dietitian consultation sessions as part of their insurance benefits? You may be able to see a registered dietitian as little as $0 per session or a small copay, depending on your insurance plan. It is an amazing benefit that many people could find useful!

What to expect from an initial consultation?

Our consultations typically last between 60 to 90 minutes and can be conducted face-to-face or virtually, depending on your preference.

During the consultation, our experienced dietitians will conduct a thorough nutritional assessment to understand your unique needs and goals. We will review your medical history, current dietary habits, food preferences, and any health concerns you may have. Your input is essential as we collaborate to tailor a plan that suits you best.

Recommendations will be customized to address your specific needs, based on your nutrition priorities and health goals. We provide nutrition education as needed to empower you with knowledge for sustainable lifestyle changes. Together, you and the dietitian will establish achievable goals and a practical plan to guide you toward improved health and wellness.

Can we be seen if we are from outside of the state of California?

We aim to provide our services to all who seek our support and nutrition guidance. We are an insurance-based and self-pay model dietitian private practice, based in Southern California. Due to state laws in licensed RD states, we may not be able to offer telehealth services to individuals in those regions. However, we may be able to conduct telehealth in certain states outside of California. We appreciate your understanding and are here to assist you within the realms permitted by the law. For further questions, please email us at RDnutrition@healthynutrilife.com and one of us will be in contact to address questions surrounding out-of-state telehealth options.

How do follow up consultations work?

Follow-up visits are essential to support your nutrition and health goals. These sessions generally last 30 to 60 minutes and are tailored to meet each individual's specific progress and needs.

Initially, we encourage more frequent visits—typically every 3-4 weeks—to establish rapport and support your health goals.

As progress follows, the frequency of follow-ups often transitions to monthly check-ins, then potentially extending to quarterly appointments or as needed.

During each visit, our dietitians perform a comprehensive re-assessment to gauge your progress. By doing so, we ensure that you receive tailored support, ongoing guidance, and access to valuable resources essential in their journey toward improved health and well-being.

I do not see my insurance carrier listed. Do you work with other insurance carriers, even if you are out of network?

We are currently working on credentialing with more insurance carriers. If you are out of network, we can provide you with a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. The cost of the nutrition counseling session will be due at the time of visit, which is set at a rate of $180 per initial consultation and $120 for follow up consultation.

I am interested in meal planning only. Is that an option?

Yes, that is an option! We will schedule a brief 20-30 minute meeting and can help you customize a meal plan, based on your dietary preferences, allergies/intolerances, and specific dietary patterns through our meal planning software. You will have access to review your meal plan, create grocery shopping lists, swap ingredients, look up new recipes, and more. Each customized meal plan is set a rate of $40 and is due at the time of booking.

If I have further questions, how do we reach our RD after the visit?

Feel free to reach out to us via email or through our secure patient portal with any questions or concerns regarding your personalized plan of care between appointments. How many dietitian consults are covered per year through my insurance plan?
